Calico Fairies
Morrison is called
the "Pied Piper of
storytelling." Critics
say "there is magic
in her voice and she
mesmerizes the
audience. She exudes
fairy dust. We'd
follow her anywhere,
especially to her
beloved Calico."
Fairy House Workshop
My family & I went to DeSoto State Park about four years ago. Renee Morrison was holding a fairy house building and storytelling workshop. It was a magical weekend. Even my husband, not sure he was the fairy house-building type, had a great time playing in the woods. Renee's stories are just remarkable, especially her story about being a hound dog. I've never heard a more expressive story teller! Here are some pictures from that weekend. Look closely at each picture--fairy houses are notoriously hard to see; fairies themselves are frequently disguised to melt into the background of the forest landscape.
This is a fairy house we made in Oak Mountain State Park a few months later. I love the thought of hikers coming upon a fairy house unexpectedly in the woods. Wouldn't you be surprised?
